COST OPTIMIZATION
HOW CAN APPROPRIATE DESIGN HELP ME SAVE IN THE PACKAGING PURCHASE PRICE?
Even in the early phases of conceiving a new design, a good designer has a broader picture in mind. With the right steps even designs that seem “set in stone” can be reshaped so that the cost per unit of packaging is lower. Sometimes a small investment in redesigning packaging can be recovered many times over in the packaging purchase price you pay to the print shop.
Below you can see a concrete example of a redesigned label for brake fluid which brought bottom line savings in the purchase price of the label.
The label was originally designed to be printed in four process colours plus additional red spot colour. The label was redesigned to use only black and additional red spot colour. In this way we got rid of three colours, and so reduced the price by 12% (one colour accounts for about 4% of the label purchase price). However, nothing was lost in the label quality.
